People often ask me how Rachel Simpson shoes come up fit wise and I totally relate to that worry about choosing the right size when buying online. Nowadays shoe sizes are a bit like dress sizes and can vary widely between brands. One of the things which has always been really important to me, as a shoe designer, is making shoes which are both well fitting and in turn, comfortable. People don't talk about comfort enough, but it doesn't matter how amazing a pair of shoes looks- if they're too painful to wear they'll just get shoved to the back of the wardrobe and I firmly believe beautiful shoes are made to be seen!

I've put this blog together to help you choose the right size in Rachel Simpson and be sure of maximum comfort.

If in doubt, size down!

Rachel Simpson shoes tend to come up on the more generous side, unlike many high street brands which tend to be small both in length and width fitting. Because they're made in high quality leathers with full leather lining, unlike synthetic fabrics they will also give during wear. So if you're usually in between sizes we'd always recommend you go for the smaller of the two- for example, if you usually wear size 5.5, in Rachel Simpson you'd be a size 5 (38). Even if these feel a tiny bit snug when you first try them on, as long as your toes aren't squeezing in lengthwise, the width will gradually increase as the leather shapes itself to your foot.

International sizing

We find this is especially true for our international customers. Our size guide shows the official conversions from European sizing (which our shoes are), to both UK and US sizes, however it's important to remember this is purely a guide. Feedback from our US customers in particular, tells us that Rachel Simpson shoes come up really generously, so do make sure you size down if in doubt.

Can I measure my feet?

This question comes up a lot and it's completely understandable! Logically you should be able to compare the length of your foot to the length of the shoe, and work out the right size this way. However- whilst this can be a useful starting point, all feet (and shoes for that matter!) are completely different shapes so it's difficult to get an exact measurement. Our size guide does include approximate length measurements, but these are meant as a rough guide only.

The measurements we provide are taken using a flexible tape measure, following the inside of the shoe from the centre point at the heel down to the very tip at the front of the shoe. They include a small amount of extra length for the end of the shoe, so will be slightly longer than your actual foot. If you have a pair of shoes that fit you well it’s a good idea to measure these in the same way and compare them against the sizing chart.

Different shoes fit differently

Whilst we keep the same sizing throughout the collection, it's also worth bearing in mind that different shoes will fit differently. For example, if you're ordering an open or peep toe style you can definitely go with the smaller size, whereas if you're going for a closed toe point, you may need a little more wiggle room. Consider the style of shoe you've chosen in relation to your foot shape.

Sneakers size small

Having said all of the above, if you're buying a pair of ROAM by Rachel Simpson trainers none of it applies! Our trainers are made in high quality synthetic leather- this looks great (and is vegan), but doesn't have the same amount of give as natural leather. Sizing is also slightly smaller so if you're in between sizes, size UP in sneakers- for example if you usually wear a 5.5, go for a size 6 (39).
