Planning a destination wedding? Whether you're saying "I do" on a sun-drenched beach, a romantic clifftop or a dreamy Mediterranean villa, choosing the right wedding shoes is just as important as finding the perfect dress. The best destination wedding shoes are beautiful (obvs!), lightweight and most importantly, comfortable! The last thing you want is to be worrying that your feet hurt, so once you've found the perfect shoes you can simply forget about them and focus on enjoying your day. There are a few things to look for when choosing shoes for a destination wedding- find them all and your feet really will thank you!
CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE
Generally speaking, the weather will be hotter than we're used to if you're getting married somewhere exotic. It's important to bear this in mind when choosing your wedding shoes- before you make the final decision to buy, make sure you try them on at the end of a long day, when your feet will have naturally expanded. This will be a good representation of how they'll fit in the warmer weather, so if you're in between sizes it may be worth going for the larger of the two to give yourself a little wiggle room (literally).
NATURAL MATERIALS
With hot feet comes the risk of sweaty feet- but this can be avoided! Look for natural materials such as leather and suede, as opposed to their synthetic counterparts. Leather is a naturally breathable material, so it will allow your feet to breathe- ideally you want to find a leather lining as well as a leather upper. If this is tricky you can get away with a good quality synthetic lining, just be careful- have a feel in side the shoe, if it feels shiny and plastic, it definitely won't have much breathing capacity!
HEEL SHAPE & HEIGHT
Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to wear flat shoes for a beach wedding. Obviously a pair of pretty flats is a great choice, but if you want to wear heels we're not going to stop you! Go for a chunky block heel if you can, as the larger surface area will mean you sink a lot less in the sand and feel more secure than something thinner. You might get away with a very low slim heel (if you have your heart set on a particular style), but if you're going any higher then a block heel (or wedge) is non-negotiable.
CONSIDER COLOUR
A destination wedding obviously means great photos- not least due to the amazing natural light on the day. Always a classic choice, ivory shoes work beautifully but it might also be worth considering adding a little pop of colour with your shoes. Metallics such as gold and rose gold work well, reflecting the light beautifully, as do soft pastels including pale blues- echoing the colours of the sky and the natural surroundings.
Choosing the perfect shoes for your destination wedding is all about finding a balance between comfort, style and practicality. Whether you’re looking for a soft pop of colour, an easy to wear sandal, or a secure block heel for walking on the beach, we've got the perfect pair to take you effortlessly from ceremony to celebration.
